GrabGuidance is a marketplace of experts for learners that offers online classes for 8th to 12th class students. In this session, Ms. Sunita explained all about skillset and how they can set everyone’s life. She has been working in the education sector for long. She is currently working in the capacity of a Founder Principal for an ICSE School in Bangalore. She is armed with MA (English), B.Ed. and a Diploma in Education Administration and Management. She believes in empowering next line of leaders with her skillset. Skills, nowadays, are one of the most important aspects at every stage of life. This video will help you understand what a skillset is all about and why it is necessary. The day we born we started learning skills unknowingly. This is called informal education. We learn from our parents, family and society. For instance, if a family is into music tradition, then child automatically picks up some of the notes.

If you’ve passion, you can achieve those skills easily. You need to have clarity in your mind with regards to vision of your life. Also, you need to be aware about the purpose of your life. When you find out the purpose, vision becomes clear. If you break down your goals into smaller parts, your vision becomes clearer and stronger. When you want to do something great in your life, you need to have knowledge about it first and then you need skills and right attitude towards it. Skillset is all about having the right amount of balance between knowledge, skills, and attitude. There are 2 types of skills:

  1. Hard Skills – They are about technical knowledge and its application
  2. Soft Skills – They can be termed as interpersonal skills, human skills, or people skills. 

It is often heard from the corporate world that there is a skill gap. You need to identify what kind of skills you require in the industry where you’re going to enter. For entry level, you need to have some skills such as – 

    • Presentation skills: In an interview, it may be the case that within 10 seconds it will be decided by the interviewer whether you’re selected or not for the profile you’ve applied for. By presentation skills, it means the way you carry yourself, the way you dress up, your etiquette, the way you make eye contact etc. 
    • Communication skills: It has various aspects to it. The precise way of communication is not about speaking only but listening also. The more you listen, more you’ll empower. 
    • Always have curiosity towards learning. Apart from this, you should’ve wider perspective of your industry in which you’re going and other industry also.
  • No matter how the situation is, how positive you’re matters the most. The more we talk about Positivity, positive things will happen. 
  • How pro-active you are is also important. We can also say agility is also necessary which is the ability to think and understand quickly.
  • Adoptability means how well you adapt yourself to the work culture of your company. 
  • Intrapersonal communication is like a conversation that takes place within one’s own self, while interpersonal communication is all about communication with other people. Both are important in its own way. 
  • Work ethics includes how consistent you’re, how persistent you’re, how you’re going to get the things done in your capacity. 
  • Catching the deadline means how you present quality work in the given deadline. 
  • Teamwork is very pertinent in today’s time. How you uplift the mood of others, how you contribute to your team, and how you mix up with your team members is the most important thing.

For middle level, following are some of the important skills needed – 

  • Analytical thinking means examining the information, collecting the facts and checking whether the statement follows logically in identifying causes and effects. You need to do Critical thinking, what is this problem, why is this problem, how solution can be derived, and how can you add value to the company. Then you come up with your own solution with creativity, and you need a lot of patience to solve that problem. 
  • When you solve the problem without taking anybody’s help is called intrinsic motivation which derives you.
  • Negotiation skills are qualities that allow two or more sides to reach to a compromise and conclusive state. How well you’re able to pursue others with the logical reasoning is called persuasion. 
  • You need to do time management when you’re working on various aspects. 
  • When you’re working with your juniors, you need to handle youngsters with a lot of emotional maturity and be empathetic to them. 

For senior level, following are some of the important skills required –

  • When you’re in a leadership position, you leverage on your soft skills and technical skills.
  • If you’re working in a challenging environment, you need to have global perspective. A global perspective is a comprehensive lens through which you see the world around you. It shapes how you perceive and understand your own identity and the identity of people you interact with.
  • You need to have dynamic personality to lead all the entry level and middle level people.
  • Decision making is the crucial part of leadership. Right decision needs to be made at the right time. 
  • You need to be highly organized in leadership position, like how to manage your daily schedule, arrange your files, targets etc. 
  • You need to prioritize your work, which work you wanted to do first. You need to see which work/task is more important and urgent. 
  • Delegating means training others, giving a task or responsibility to another person. 
  • Your leadership skills will be tested when you’ve conflict in your organization. You need to listen to others very carefully and have a problem solver approach. 
  • Networking is all about meeting the right people and understanding how both will add value to each other. 
  • When you become a leader, you can’t share all the details to every person. You’ve to be diplomatic sometimes.


Enterprising Personality

When you’re in leadership position with any organization, you feel the company that you’re working for is yours and that is what make you to have an enterprising personality. Features of enterprising personality –

  • Resistance to work and pressure

Everyone is having work pressure. You take break from your work and entertain yourself. You must know how to handle it with ease. 

  • Respect for capital

Don’t use company’s capital for your own personal use. You should have respect for capital. 

  • Orientation to the client

It is more about finding the issues which clients are facing and try to solve their issues within 24 hrs. 

  • Skills to sell the idea

If you’ve an idea that can be sold and if it is accepted, try to work on that idea. You must know how and when to present that idea as well.

  • Desire to do

You shouldn’t take work as a burden rather it should be taken as passion. 

  • Confidence and creating ability

You must have confidence in yourself and must create value for the company.
